A bone in roast will cook faster than a boneless roast because the bone conducts heat.

How did we live without you?

by Libbie Summers, Food Editor

Who knew Trisha Yearwood was even from Georgia? I guess I always had in my head that she was from Oklahoma or Tennessee.  One of those “country singin’” states. But, last Friday, in the middle of winter, in walks an out of season Georgia peach to Paula’s house…(with an entourage from those “country singin’” states).

Trisha was a guest on Paula’s Best Dishes.  I didn’t really get what all the fuss was about. The production company was way more “New York” than usual.  And, you would have thought that royalty was coming the way Brandon did up Paula’s master bath as Trisha’s greenroom.  Yes, she has an AMAZING voice.  Yes, she is stunningly beautiful…but can she really cook?

Fast forward 4 hours through hair and makeup, lunch, walk throughs, cooking jalapeno hushpuppies, resetting jalapeno hushpuppies, cooking catfish, resetting catfish, cooking stewed collards, resetting stewed collards and cooking chocolate cobbler (that by the way was to die for) I can tell you this…GET TRISHA YEARWOOD A TIARA!  She is royalty!  My girl can cook up a storm with the ease of a kitchen staff of 12.  She and Paula hit it off like they were long lost cousins and had so much fun cooking and visiting together.  They were a joy to watch and I can’t wait for you all to view the episode in a few months.

When I overheard Trisha say she and her crew were going to The Lady and Son’s restaurant for dinner before they got back on the plane - all this while she was helping clean up Paula’s kitchen counter with Martha and I, AND taking pictures with the crew - I couldn’t help but hum to myself, “How DID we live without her?”

Buy a country record and eat something homemade,
Libbie

Hello Mrs Paula, I can’t wait to see Trisha and you cooking together. I was in Savannah heading to Flordia for the “Gator Bowl”. My daughter, sister, and a friend made it a girls week-end. We stayed over in Savannah for the sole purpose of eating at The Lady and sons. But we told they were booked due to it being News Years Eve. We were so hoping to see Paula, or one of her gorgeous sons. We did shop at you store Paula and had our picture taken with your life size cut out. It was a ball and we fell in love with Savannah. My daughter wants to move there. We Love you Paula.

I can’t wait to see the show.  I bought Tricia’s first cookbook and have all of Paula’s.  I’m so proud of these two fine Georgia Peaches who have made it big and haven’t forgotten their roots.  You go girls!!!

I am looking forward to the episode with Trisha
Yearwood. I would very much like to see more Country singers on with you Paula.  I hear that Tim McGraw makes a mean pot of chicken and dumplings.  How about something from George and Norma Strait? Thanks

Hey Becky G of Hutchinson, KS! Tricia was fab! Her first cookbook is already out and the new one is scheduled to release in April. I got a peek at the galley of the new book and it looks fantastic. Simple and delicious southern cooking with a country music star flare!

Libbie Summers on February 18, 2010 07:57 PM

Sounds like everyone had a super good time.  I will see Paula and the gang this Saturday, 2-20+2010, in Charlotte.  I can not wait.

Bobbie Gardner of Hamptonville, North Carolina on February 18, 2010 01:56 PM

What a great pair the two of you make!! Some of Trisha’s family are from Willacoochee, Ga. which is not far from Douglas Ga. my hometown. I enjoy both Trisha and Garth’s music. We have been a fan for many years.
Keep up the great music and the great recipes!!!

Betty Burkhalter of Port Wentworth, GA on February 18, 2010 01:46 PM

I love Trisha Yearwood! Did not know she was a great cook. I can’t wait to see that episode. I drive by Paula’s house all the time and never guessed such famous people were inside cooking with Paula. How fun!

Linn Rush-Patterson of savannah,ga. on February 18, 2010 10:35 AM

I have seen Trisha interviewed several times and she was just so down to earth I think ANYONE could just talk to her like a long lost relative!! She was fantastic when she did the tour of Graceland…..not to mention that she is a beautiful woman!  Her husband is not so bad himself!!!!  *laugh*

Sherrill Hancox of Semmes, ALabama on February 18, 2010 12:13 AM

I can’t wait to see the show with Trisha.  I love her singing I didn’t know she cooked too.  I also love Paula she was only two months old when I was born so I can relate to her so much.  I’m also a Georgia Peach!! I met my husband when he was in the army and he went to Vietnam and some of the guys patrolling the rivers with him were writing to three of my cousins and my then fiance told them if you ever meet one of these Georgia Peaches you won’t ever want to meet anyone else! I guess he liked this one, we married in Hawaii on his R & R from Vietnam (he is from Texas) and we’ve been together now for 40 years! Only knew him three months before he left. I am hooked on Paula’s cooking shows my morning is centered around her (I’m retired), love her book “It ain’t all about the cooking”, am getting her magazine.  Going to my favorite Georgia town Savannah and hoped to get to go to The Lady & Sons.  That’s the main reason I am going this time.  I love you Paula and your sweet family.

Jackie Butler of Lithia Springs, Georgia on February 17, 2010 11:54 PM
