  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (6 oz) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 16 large marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans


Step 1

Combine sugar, milk, butter, salt and chocolate chips in a saucepan and heat until chocolate is melted.

Step 2

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, nuts and marshmallows until melted; mix well. Pour into shallow 8-inch square pan to cool; cut into squares.

Step 3

Yields approximately 16 to 24 pieces, or about 2 1/2 pounds of candy.



A Note From the Test Kitchen: If you're having trouble with your fudge setting up, try combining the sugar, milk, butter and salt first, boiling for 5 minutes while stirring, and then add the chocolate and stir until melted. Follow the directions as written from there.

JANET!!! I have

JANET!!! I have looked high and low for my mother's fudge recipe. Paula's sounds close but your grandmother's may be it. This recipe is not working because it's called 5 minute fudge and you are supposed to cook it for 5 minutes (timed).Would you be willing to share your recipe??? My mother is 91 and I would love to be able to make it for her.

I made this fudg

I made this fudge and it did not turn out. It never got hard. I came back to the recipe and watched the video. She put everything in the pan at once. It did not say to do this in the recipe directions, so that is probably why everyone is having trouble getting it to harden. What a waste of ingredients, very disappointing. I am not sure I would want to try it again to see if it would turn out. Don't want to waste ingredients.

My grandmother m

My grandmother made the best fudge ever. I make it and it was way softer than hers ever was. I finally got to look at her recipe and she Combined sugar, milk, butter, salt and the marshmallows in a saucepan and cooked it for 5 minutes (stirring constantly). She removed from heat added the chips and vanilla. It has the same wonderful flavor but its not as soft.

Laura,I'm sure

I'm sure you've made a decision about your soft fudge by now, but I wanted to give you another suggestion, just in case. Instead of trying to make it more firm, why not stir in a little more evaporated milk and use it as filling between the layers of a 2 or 3 layer cake? Use the rest to ice the cake or use a simple 5 minute frosting or that new cool whip frosting for the top and sides of the cake. That cake would be delicious and you'd be a genius.

Thank you for your comment! We suggest doing a search online, there are ways to save that fudge! One suggestion is adding powdered sugar and whipping it until the right consistency. Best of luck!

I made this fudg

I made this fudge and it didn't firm up even after 2 days in the fridge can I melt it back down and add something to it to help it firm it taste really good but to soft
