Lower-Sugar Gooey Butter Cake Recipe by Paula Deen

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 3 eggs, divided
  • 12 tablespoons butter, melted, divided
  • 1 (8 oz) package reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup artificial sweetner


Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°.

Step 2

Combine the cake mix, 1 egg and 4 tablespoons butter, and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9-inch baking pan.

Step 3

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the 2 eggs, vanilla and 8 tablespoons butter and beat together. Add the artificial sweetner and mix well.

Step 4

Spread over cake batter and bake for 40-50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake, as the center should be a little gooey.

Yummy! Tried bo

Yummy! Tried both & can't tell much difference. This one was made with yellow cake mix & the other was your store boxed receipt. Both really good! Thanks for cutting the sugar down. Family loved both.
