Cheeseburger Casserole Recipe by Paula Deen

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 (28 oz) can chopped tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 8 oz wide egg noodles
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, stirring to break up the lumps, until all of the pink is gone from the meat. Drain off the fat. Add the onion and the green pepper, and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, with juice, and the Worcestershire sauce, oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat to low. Simmer the mixture for about 15 minutes.

 

2. Fill medium pot half full of water. Add 1 teaspoon salt. Bring the water to a boil. Stir in the noodles and boil for about 8 minutes, until tender. Drain the noodles, return the noodles to the pot. Pour the tomato mixture over the noodles and stir until blended.

 

3. Put the noodle mixture into a baking dish that you have sprayed with cooking spray. Top with cheese. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Enjoy it as a family meal, then refrigerate the leftovers.

Made this dish for the first time. I think it was easy to prep . And is a great change of pace.

Bland. Basicall

Bland. Basically tasteless even though I increased the salt, pepper and oregano. Shocked at how plebeian this was given Paula's reputation for butter and richness. If you are a pretty knowledgeable cook, don't bother.

My mom made this

My mom made this while I was growing up. It's a great casserole when you are stretching a budget. I had 3 older brothers who were much older than me with typical teenage appetites. We all loved it. I've made it for my husband now for 30+years and it's one of his favorites as well. Since it's just the two of us we split it into two dishes and freeze one without the cheese on top. Freezes nicely.

This was just OK

This was just OK. I made it exactly as the recipe states and thought that one large onion was too much, and one teaspoon of oregano was too much. The dish seemed rather bland but has potential. The next time I make it I'll use half of the oregano and onion called for and maybe add some basil and garlic.

This is so good.

This is so good. I followed exactly except that I added two tablespoons of butter to the cooked noodles before mixing with other ingredients. Delicious!!!!

My family loved

My family loved this dish and it was easy-peasy to make. Took all of 10-15 minutes to assemble and put in the oven. I baked it for a half an hour covered in tin foil. The taste was excellent and good enough to make again and again for my family.

Just a comment..

Just a comment...it would be helpful if number of calories per serving was listed.
