December is a great time to reflect on the (almost over) year and share special memories with loved ones and friends. Well, we’re in the spirit of sharing, too! Introducing… (drum roll, please) the top ten recipes of 2012. If you haven’t tried one of these scrumptious dishes, make it your New Year’s resolution to squeeze at least one into your holiday menu.

imageMexican Chicken: This cheesy, creamy casserole is an easy weeknight meal. It is a great way to use leftover chicken and can be prepared ahead, if necessary.

imageOld Fashioned Meatloaf: There’s a reason this meatloaf made the top ten recipes of 2012—it’s delicious! It is moist and flavorful, and the combination of mustard and ketchup makes the glaze tangy and sweet. Meatloaf is low-maintenance and a great crowd-pleaser.

imageAunt Peggy’s Cucumber, Tomato and Onion Salad: This fresh salad is a great side dish. Try serving alongside Finger Sandwiches. It’s fresh and cool and the vinegar packs a pleasant punch. Prep time is only 15 minutes!

imageFried Dill Pickles: These little dills are a great southern staple. Most people head to their favorite local restaurant and order them, but they’re so easy to make at home! Serve alongside Miss Gloria’s Blue Ranch Dressing or a spicy Horseradish Cream.

imagePina Colada Smoothie: There’s nothing like a cool smoothie on a hot summer day. This smoothie is easy to make and even easier to drink! The tart pineapple combines perfectly with the sweet coconut, making this smoothie an obvious, and yummy, choice!

imageThe Lady’s Chicken Noodle Soup: Whether you’re under the weather or not, there’s no denying that chicken noodle soup is good ol’ fashioned comfort food. It’s is packed with chicken, veggies, noodles, and flavor!

imageNot Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding: In the south banana pudding is a regionally accepted currency. But, this twist on a classic is sure to please banana-pudding-lovers nation-wide! And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, it’s easy to make ahead of time for a party or get together.

House Seasoning: It doesn’t get more basic than house seasoning, but it also doesn’t get more delicious. Use this house seasoning on anything- pasta salads, dips, sandwiches, soups—you name it!

imageCorrie’s Kitchen Spa Citrus Salt Body Scrub: Okay, so this isn’t exactly a “dish”. Don’t get us wrong, you can eat it—we just wouldn’t. This scrub is a great homemade gift for friends and even better to keep around the kitchen for you. Lemon is a go-to way to get the hard-to-remove garlic smell off your hands.

imageChicken and Rice Casserole: This casserole is an easy week-night staple. It makes use of leftovers (like chicken and rice), and can be made ahead of time for easy prep. It’s creamy, and cheesy, and don’t forget tasty!

I am looking forward to trying some of the above recipes. I have been trying to obtain one of Paula's recipes from a Christmas show on Fox news with Ducey. It contained hash browns, sourcream, ham cheese, onions etc, I think it was a breakfast casserole . I have one of the PD cookbooks and the recipe is not in it. I have contacted you as well as Fox News and have not had a response. Could you send it to me. Thank you for your help. Judith Guillermin

I love reading about your family and seeing your pictures. I respect the fact that you are teaching your son's family values because so much of that seems to be going by the wayside anymore..maybe someday we will meet and by that time your son's may even have their own cooking show.lol..wishing you lots and lots of love from this country girl's kitchen to Brooke Deen's kitchen of love.
