Savannah Style: Paula’s Thanksgiving Table

By Paula Deen

Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays. It’s a day that’s centered all around the most delicious food and spending time with wonderful friends and family members, so what’s not to love? Aunt Peggy and I spend most of the day working together to perfect our traditional Turkey Day feast. I love to serve both a ham and turkey, that way my guests are able to choose, and that way I know I’ll also have plenty for leftovers for the next day. (If you haven’t seen it already, check out some of my new Turkey Leftover recipes- y’all they are out of this world!) And my sweet Aunt Peggy makes her famous Giblet Gravy. We have the best time giving thanks and sampling all of the good food!

I always take special care when setting my Thanksgiving table to make sure that it is just as beautiful as the food that we share. What I love most about it is that it’s not hard to make a simply stunning centerpiece. All you need is a few crafts and a little know-how to make something so beautiful for all of your guests to enjoy. Learn how to get the look for yourself!

The Centerpiece: Y’all will not believe how incredibly easy it is to make this beautiful centerpiece. I just took some chicken wire I had laying around the house, and molded into the shape of a cornucopia, one of the most traditional things about Thanksgiving! I hot glued green moss around the outside, and Brandon, my Design Director, filled it to the brim with some pretty seasonal flowers.
The Table: The best part about this whole table is that I really didn’t have to buy anything. I just took what I had laying around the house. Don’t you just love the pretty colors in this china? They belonged to one of my great aunts, and I think it’s wonderful how these older patterns are so popular again today. The linens are vintage that I just had on-hand. The pretty goblets I actually borrowed from one of my friends, and the are Royal Doulton. I thought the colors went perfectly with the rest of my theme.

The Food: You didn’t think that I forgot the food did you? I always make sure I serve:
Deep Fried Turkey
Fresh Ham
Easy Yeast Rolls
Compound Butter
Southern Cornbread Stuffing
Oyster Dressing (For Michael)
Green Beans and New Potatoes
Wayne’s Cranberry Sauce
Cranberry Salad
Aunt Peggy’s Sweet Potato Souffle
Ol’ No. 7 Yams
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Giblet Gravy (A How-To article with recipe!)
Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Pecan Pie

There is nothing about Paula Deen I don't like! If she makes it, I'm probably going to like it...well, except that fish stew one day...If there is more than one recipe for a dish, I'm going with Paula's every time!

Thanks so much for your up beat attitude, you really keep me going . Your love for food and cooking is also my passion. I love that you came up thru hard times and made it. Right nowe we are also going thru some hard times, we lost my hubby and daughters Dad to cancer less than 2 yrs ago. So i have been thrown into the single MOM role , Im trying to do it well but right now as I put the kiddo thru college we live pay check to paycheck. Its a big change from what her Dad made. But Im doing it, and proud to do it . My goal to make enought to be comfortable and give back, to the community by my baking and cooking . Someday it will happen I know it will. Thanks paula for being you.

I love to read Bobbie's recipes because they are light. Since becoming a bariatric patient I would like Bobbie to make his dishes so that we as bariatric patients can enjoy his cooking too.Our food has to be low in fat under 13 mg.s and sugar -free under 10 mg.s of sugar. Bobbie's dishes are the best, so hopefully he can come up with recipes for us bariatric patients. I am sure that there are other bariatric patients that feel the same way as me. Donna Keffer
