Recipes for a Family Reunion

By The Paula Deen Test Kitchen

Summer is a great time to plan a family reunion!  Kids are on vacation from school, the weather is beautiful and everyone is in a festive mood.  It is a wonderful way to celebrate the people you love most and bring everyone together from near and far; from those long lost great uncles and second cousins who have yet to meet your kids, to your sister and brother who live right down the street.

Like most large gatherings the food needs to take center stage, but it can sometimes be a daunting task, especially when bringing so many people together.  What do you make to be sure there is something that everyone will like? Here at Paula’s Test Kitchen we have done half the work for you.  We came up with some food themes to keep it fun and festive, as well as plenty of recipe ideas!  Another great thing about doing a food themed party is that if you want to make it potluck it is easy to assign different dishes within the theme.

BBQ Bash
An all time classic summer meal is the BBQ.  An easy way to feed a crowd that everyone loves!  Try these recipes at your family reunion BBQ:

Grilled Vegetable Basket
Grilled Boneless Sirloin with Vidalia Onion Skewers
Grilled Southern Panzanella Salad
Grilled Corn and Watermelon Salad
The Lady’s Ultimate Macaroni and Cheese
Fresh Raspberry Bars

Delicious Italian-Style
Who doesn’t love Italian?  We can’t think of a better way to feed a crowd then with this Italian-style family reunion meal.

Eggplant Parmesan
Cheesy Chicken and Vegetable Lasagna
Ceaser Salad with Parmesan Crisps
Stuffed Artichokes
Slow Cooker Cheese Stuffed Meatballs and Sauce
Lime and Blueberry Tiramisu

Sandwiches and Salads
Easy make ahead sandwiches makes this picnic menu the ultimate for feeding a crowd.  The variety will be sure to keep everyone happy.  So pack it up and head for the lake!

Pimento Cheese Sandwiches
Chicken Salad Sliders
Tomato Sandwiches with Basil or Parsley
Shrimp Salad Sandwiches
Roasted Potato Salad
Broccoli Cole Slaw
Fresh Fruit Tart

Paula, I am going to give you the same advice I give my kids when they feel like they are overwhelmed by crap. Stand up. Pull up the big girl panties. Suck it up and accept that some people are rotten, mean and hateful. That is life. Quit apologising for something you said over 20 years ago. Go on with your life, and do not let yourself get sucked back into a relationship with any of those who jumped on the rabid hate train. Be strong. You have an example of class to set.

Paula I miss you on TV and my heart goes out to you and your family. Don't let these jealous small minded people hurt you. The food network is wrong. I no longer watch it, only Jamie on Sunday. You are a good person and I pray everyday that this will be over. I had a similar experience at work and the person that was attacking and trying to bring me down eventually was found wrong and was punished. Take care and as my grandfather would say "don't let the turkeys get you down" good luck, good fortune and love. Your friend Janet

Hi paula, I just got back from vacation to my first time ever to Savannah!! I loved it...walked by your restaurant and the line was out the door. I wish you were there so i could give you a big hug. I am behind you a thousand percent. People make mistakes. We are all human. respect is earned and gained. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Being yourself is to be true to yourself. The only persone who shall be critical of you is the face in the mirror and the Good Lord above. I am and always will be a Paula Deen Fan. You inspire me in so many ways. Your food shows your love...and your love shall live forever. Best best wishes and happy times to you and your family. Keep Cooking....sharing your love with us all...To those who put you down: Standing in others shoes is never comfortable...stop tightening the laces!

Paula, I can't find you on TV anymore. Do you still have a new channel? I'm so sorry for all the hulabaloo that has interupted your shows. I love your recipes and I love your southern accent. My mom & dad lived in Southeast Missouri, & they moved us to northern Illinois for about 20 yrs & my mom never lost her accent! I do hope that you & your family will come thru all this junk that has been put upon you and look forward to seeing you on TV once again! Luv sent your way, Joy Bramlett, "still in northern Illinois."

I went to my family reunion and announced that I was making my statement in support for Paula Deen. I carried my food in your bakeware. Everything was eaten so I suppose the family had no problems . ALJ.

I agree with Linda's comment. I have been a fan of yours from the very beginning. I will continue to support you, buy your products and continue to make your delicious recipes. Keep your head up high and never loose faith. You have a loving family with Michael, Jamie and Bobby. They are all you need in this world. My best to you!!!! Chris Roulo Coram, NY

It is hard to believe people are so cruel, and want to ruin someone's reputation and career. I have heard your story and am amazed of how you started with The Bag Lady, single mom raising your boys. I wish I had had that much confindence to do something like that when I was raising my two boys. I will always be a loyal fan of yours. Keep your head up, and know there are people still behind you. Prayers are with you and your family.

Paula you're the reason why I started watching watching the Food network channel. That bright, beautiful smile of yours just lights up a room or t.v. set. I love your style of cooking from the very beginning and have not wavered one bit. I feel they have done an injustice to you and your family. Keep that beautiful smile on your beautiful face as it warms many hearts. Getting to know you and your family through the years have lifted me up further on good days and have been my saving grace on bad days. Keep the faith as you have many, many followers. Love y'all, linda
