Picnic Perfect, Summertime Sweets

By Paula Deen

Who says you can’t have a “dessert picnic”? That’s exactly what I did last week while Michael and I were on vacation. We escaped the Savannah heat and headed up to the mountains for a few days. For a sweet stop along the way, I surprised Michael and packed a few of our favorite decadent treats. Y’all, my only advice is to choose non-gooey desserts, cut them into bite size pieces and pack a bright red quilt to lay out on the ground for a proper romantical picnic!

Dear Paula I finally got the priviledge of dining in your restaurant in Savanna this past January. I love it, the food was just what I expected. I have been looking for a recipe for Walnut Bluberry Ring Cake. I would deeply appreciate it if you could send me one if you have it.Thanks and looking forward to visiting you again. Edith Smith.

Paula, I just love all of your recipes. My husband and I,(also my children), have been proud victims of quite a few of your recipes. However, your red velvet cake recipe steals the show!!!! It is so moist and just melts in your mouth. No one can compare to you when it comes to down home southern cooking. I love you and I faithfully watch your show every day.

I purchased The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cookbook when we were in Savannah in June. I am intrigued by the Foolproof Standing Rib Roast recipe, but there is a gap which I need to have filled: What is the maximum length of time that can elapse between the hour cooking period and the 30-40 cooking time before serving?

great recipe needed something simple and sweet for a casual wedding in addition to cake

Paula,  ever since you demonstrated the Lemon Blossom recipe, I’ve had more requests for them than anything else. I just took a batch to an event featuring Raul Labrador, Republican Candidate for Congressional District 1 in Idaho.  He went wild over them and requested the recipe be sent to his wife, Becca.  Not only did he want the recipe but our current Representative Dick Harwood wanted the recipe for his wife.  Now this recipe is circulating among other politicans and are being enjoyed across the state.

Thanks for a great and easy recipe to take to different events.  I just love ya, girl.

Anything you touch turns to butter!!  I am often teased about worshipping you… You are my mentor in the kitchen!  Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats your gooey butter cakes… I have not met ONE person who didn’t think they were just this side of Heaven… Happiness and Health to you and yours!

I have been making the lemon blossoms for a few years now, after seeing the recipe on an episode of Paula’s show.  They are absolutely delicious.  They’re sweet, they’re tart, they’re light, and definitely addictive!!  My husband usually doesn’t go for a dessert if it’s not chocolate, but this is the only non-chocolate recipe he requests!!  Thanks for sharing…again!

The “five layer bars” are my hubby’s all time favorite. They are so great to make and include them in a goodie box when he is downrange. The kids and I sent lots of batches the two times he was in Iraq and now we are sending these treats to him in Afghanistan. He says that it is a little piece of home in every bite. I think I will include some of the “brown sugar chewies” in the next box. Thanks Paula for the great recipes and the smile you bring to my face whenever I read one of your comments on Facebook. It helps me to forget about all the stress of being an Army wife for a little bit. Love ya!
