DIY Holiday Cinnamon Stick Candle

By The Paula Deen Test Kitchen

Who doesn’t love a cozy candle this time of year? To really light up your holiday season, follow our cinnamon stick candle how to, and let it glow!

imageStep 1: First gather all your materials. You’ll need a hot glue gun and sticks, pretty ribbon or twine, long cinnamon sticks, small decorative embellishments (like pinecones, small ornaments, or freshly cut holly), and a candle. You should be able to pick up all supplies with one stop at your local craft store.

imageStep 2: Carefully glue the cinnamon sticks together around the base of the candle.

imageStep 3: Continue gluing the cinnamon sticks around the base of the candle, using various sizes for a more interesting look and feel.

imageStep 4: Tie a ribbon or some twine around the middle of the candle. We used vintage Christmas ribbons we found at a yard sale. Feel free to get creative here- burlap, twine, and baker’s ribbon all look great.

imageStep 5: Add your favorite embellishment to the center of the ribbon.

These make perfect and inexpensive gifts for your friends and family! Happy crafting, y’all!

Hi PAULA,LOVE YOUR CANDLE. FOR MY BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR MY DAUGHTER WHO IS41 LOVES DOING CRAFTS AND SHE LOVES CANDLES AS MUCH AS I DO. SHE TOOK TWO TUNA CANS AND A CHICKEN OF THE SEA CAN AND COVERED THEM WITH A BEAUTIFUL SILK RIBBON, THEN PUT HER CANDLE STUFF WITH A SCENT AND TOOK ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL CANDLE AND MADE A BOW AND GLUED A JEWL STONE IN FRONT AND BACK. I SO LOVE THEM, SHE SAID MOM U BETTER BURN THEM, I CAN ALWAYS MAKE U MORE. ONE CHRISTMAS MY SISTER-IN-LAW WHO WAS LIKE MY SIS, SHE AND I WERE LIKE U AND BUBBLES. SHE PASSED AWAY FEW YEARS AGO, SHE AND I BOUGHT WHEN OUR BOYS WERE LITTLE TOW HUGE SANTA CANDLES AT A MALL. I CRED WITH U WHEN U HAD AMY AND SUZIETTE WITH THEIR MOM ON FEW DAYS AGO ON YOYUR COOKING SHOW, WHERE THEY RAIDED YOUR CLOSET. DIDN;T THEIR MOM PASS A FEW YEARS AGO, CAUSE I KNOW JACK IS MORE THAN 5 BY NOW. SUCH WONDERFUL MEMORIES THANK GOD FOR WEBCAM CORDERS AND WAYS TO PRESERVE THESE TIMES. CAUSE THEY CAN NEVER COME AGAIN. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO U AND MIKIE AND BOBBY AND LOVELY BROOKE AND JAMIE AND THE BOYS. AND TO ALL YOUR FAMILY. ALWAYS ROSIE IN CT.

Thanks for the step-by-step directions on the candle with cinnamon sticks. Saw a picture of this craft in Celebrate magazine and had decided to make it for next year's cookie and craft exchange. (We take 12 dozen cookies and 12 of the same craft items.) Around 100 people attend this exchange. A friend is going to Mexico for Christmas and will bring me the cinnamon sticks that are approximately 2 ft. long and can be cut to any size.

I love this idea!! My daughter and I will be making some of these tomorrow! I'm going to run out and get some cinnamon sticks in the morning. Thanks for the idea! I am NOT crafty at all, but, even I can do these! Merry Christmas, Paula, Michael and the entire family!

Would there be a problem with the cinnamon sticks burning as the candle melts??

I made these with items purchased at the Dollar Store except the candel and cinnamon sticks. I used them as Dirty Santa gifts for church and work. They were stold as many times as allowed. Great Idea.
