Beat The Heat

By Paula Deen

I’m always looking for ways to cool off during our hot sticky Georgia days and nights. When the boys were little, I’d set up the sprinkler and have them run through it. Heck, I’ve been known to run through a few sprinklers myself. Truth be told, I’ve blown up a few pools and cooled off in those as well! Whether you’re coolin’ off with a sprinkler, pond or pool these refreshing and chilly summer drinks will also help y’all to beat the heat this summer.

Sparkling cherry lemonade…yum!  I garnish mine with 1 or 2 maraschino cherries and a lemon slice or wedge.  It’s also great made with lime juice.

Read your article and recipes on Beat the heat.  Loved your comments about the boys (and you occasionally) running around under the sprinklers. When I was little we lived out in the country in a small town.  When it rained, as long as it was not lightening, Mama would let us play in the rain. Did you ever get to do that? The real fun part was we didn’t have bathing suits and that’s the one time Mama would let us run around in just our panties.  Hadn’t thought of that in so many years.  You just bring out the little girl in me again.  Love you and before you ask there are no pictures. HA!!!  Veona

you might want to try for the Iced Mocha: 2 c. coffee, 3 packets of nofat hot cocoa mix 1 Tbs, sweet and low or sugar and 1 TBs non-fat dairy creamer also. add ice and you can even add 1 cup fresh or frozen berriesif you want a mocho berry flavor rasberries and strawberries work best for flavor but mixed berries is equally as good.
