I have a sickness.
I can’t look at food and see what most people see. I want to cut, style, paint, manipulate…do anything to change something ordinary into something extraordinary. Luckily, with Paula’s encouragement, I get to let my creative juices pour. Case in point, the summer watermelons used at the bridal shower Paula hosted for her niece Corrie this past Saturday. What were once a couple of watermelons grown in a Georgia field are now a funky Watermelon Wedding Cake made to decorate a dessert table for a beautiful Georgia Peach.
Eat something homegrown and don’t be afraid to play with your food,
Libbie

I recently made a watermelon stroller for my friends baby shower. I can’t take credit for the idea but I can take credit for the outcome. It was a big hit at the shower. Also made lil people for my daughter pre-k class; carrots, black olives, apple slices and cheese. Those were the cutest. Not sure how to upload pic’s of my creations…

Dawn,
How about some mini cream puffs in a tiered tray? You could drizzle white chocolate icing on them and arrange some pretty flowers around them.

Yavonna, What month is your wedding? Let us know and we’ll offer some seasonal suggestions. The cupcakes for dessert sound great or doing a fun whoopie pies is also a great alternative to wedding cake.

Paula,
Love all your posts and recipes and shows. Just a note that my daughter and her family are at Tybee Island for their vacation. Yesterday they spent a great day in Savannah shopping—they made it to the Lady and Son for a great meal and hope to go to Bubba’s tonite for another great meal. They love Tybee and vow this is their new vacation destination every summer. Thanks—

Hi Paula,
I once made a Popcorn Turkey for my kids who had to bring a vegatarian dish to a Thanksgiving party.
I didn’t want to do the usual veggie thing, so I made some carmel candy popcorn and formed it into a big turkey with drumsticks on each side, I used popsicle sticks for the drumstics and put those frilly little paper leggin thingys on the drumsticks. The kids had fun making it with me and we laughed at what we were doing and how everyone would be so surprized. I put it on a platter laced with parsley ans little crab apples around it. Well! It was the highlight of the party and my kids were so proud of there Popcorn Turkey. Of course my son Teddy and daughter Tina got the drumsticks.
Thought you’d get a kick out of that!
I also made a watermelon cake for my other daughter Bella , who is a vegaterian, but I pealed the rind off the melon and sliced it into 2 in. circles, stacking it with other fruits in between the layers, I put, fresh sliced strawberries, another layer with fresh sliced pinapple, another with kiwi fruit, another with fresh sliced peaches and black berries. I garnished it with fresh mint and fresh cherries. It stood about 9 inches tall. I wish I would of taken a picture. It was not only colorful, tasty and pretty, it was healthy too!
