They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but every time I look at this picture here, only three words come to mind: love, love, love!
I suppose it’s because this picture is what they call a “happy accident.” Chia had been taking photos for the website all afternoon and I was startin’ to fade. Then Jack shows up ‘cause he caught wind that we had a piglet on the set. It was just the pick-me-up I needed. We were thinking that surely Jack would want to sit with me and hold the pig because what little boy wouldn’t? But when we tried to get him to hold the little critter, Jack would have none of it, not for all the tea in China. If you’ve been around kids any, you understand how once they set their mind to something, it’s not likely they’re gonna budge. This was no exception. Jack wasn’t upset or anything; he just shoved his hands in his pockets and looked straight ahead, flashing the most genuine smile.
Chia captured that moment like the pro she is. The priceless look on Jack’s face and the beautiful light coming through the window was nothing short of perfect. And it wasn’t staged. It was a real moment shared between my grandson and me. I especially like how I’m glancing over at Jack, givin’ him this look that says I know full well what it means to be stubborn. See, sometimes we’re like two peas in a pod. We spent the rest of the day laughing and being mischievous, slowing down progress but having a real good time doing it. Funny thing is, that little pig turned out to be more behaved than either of us!
Y’all, I get my picture taken all the time. But this is surely one of my favorites, which is why I wanted to share it with y’all. It holds a special place in my heart and in my home—it’s the only one I display in my kitchen so I can look at it all the time. Pictures like that are rare and so are the moments. Be sure to treasure them.

Your Beautiful Family. Very Lovely..
By Brenda Hansen on July 12, 2012
Was looking up a recipe online (googling) and found one of yours, reminding me again how much I love everything-Paula-Deen! Much ado about nothing as far as I'm concerned over the "diabetes and Paula" issue over the last few months. I understand it. I'm newly-diabetic and I've had to get right with it in my own life before sharing it with anybody else. I disclose it to whom I choose, and when I choose; it's nobody's business, and we all know to eat in moderation, no matter what the recipe and who's in the kitchen. We have to take responsibility with ourselves, and not blame somebody else. Everybody is so quick to judge and pounce on one another. Just glad you're okay and feeling healthy! Saw you on TV being interviewed by somebody, and then saw you here on the site with your running galpal and, wow, you look incredible! One hot mama (grandmama!). You've definitely lost weight; see it immediately in the face, and look at your tiny "behind!" Good for you. I'm only at 120 days on my diagnosis, with much-improved glucose and liver labs, and I feel like I'm finally getting on top of the carb counting/guidance and "what to eat," but exercise remains my big challenge, so you are "living inspiration" that we "senior" gals can look fab (and feel fab) if we just get on out there and give it a go with, at the very least, some walking every day. Looking forward to seeing Paula Deen traditional recipes for all our special occasions (and also Paula Deen tips on maybe how to tweak them here and there; how you're doing it for yourself as you make that diabetic journey). A friend told me she was sorry that diabetes had to slap her upside the head before she started really paying attention to mindful eating but, in an odd way, diabetes wound up saving her life because it forced her into a more conscientious lifestyle. We all got duped with a lot of fast and processed foods over the years, but we can reverse some of the mistakes with education, still enjoy some of the comfort foods and find a way to bridge the old, favorite family recipes to today's better-informed choices. I didn't believe it at first, but now I do. I can still eat a lot of my grandma's-homecooking recipes, but just less and with some minor substitutions. That lady never stopped moving...busy in her garden, beating rugs hanging on the line, back and forth in her kitchen, spring cleaning and not just in the spring, bringing in the cows from pasture to be milked. No secret that ladies of that day, for all the richer cooking, worked off the calories just doing their farm chores. Makes sense that my life is a lot cushier, so I can't eat like she did, not all the time. We've, some of us, just had to get smart about these things; take the time to think about it, and implement change. We can do it! All the best to you, Vicki in California

Thank you for sharing, Paula. I love you!!! I can see heart in what you do. You look absolutely beautiful and radiant these days (even though you've always been beautiful). As a mother and wife, you've inspired me to shed this left over "baby weight" that I've been carrying. Many celebs of late have joined the weight loss/healthier living band wagon, but when I saw YOU, I felt something within inspire me. It's my inner voice, God's way of speaking to me. I guess letting me know that it's time for me to take care of myself as well. Don't worry about the "haters" and mean spirited people. I guess looking at their own imperfections is too much for them... The best revenge you can pay anyone is to live and live well!!

Hey Paula, I am writing to you for my sister who recently finished her last session of chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. She is doing really well and is going to Savannah at the end of the month with her girlfriends for getaway weekend. She told me one of things they will do is go to your restaurant. She is a huge fan and she is quite the cook herself. Your smile and your radiant attitude is a great positive influence on her life. Thank you

Miss Paula,I am a big fan of you and your show.I enjoy making some of the dishes I find on your website and reading the blogs. But the reason I am writing is to ask a question about the Magnolia Fishing Lodge in Crystal River.I have lived in the area of Crystal River my whole life(55 years) and I do not recall it.We have a site on Facebook called,"Remember When..." and your having been to the lodge has gotten alot of attention. So,would you please clarify it for us?Some have said your grandparents owned it and that you lived there for awhile. If so,could you tell us when and where the lodge was located? Thank You,Randy Strickland.

Paula, I'd rather spend a day with you watching the frig defrost than go to the superbowl with that arrogant twit Bordain (Bordumb)! Why don't you send him one of your famous sack lunches. He looks like he needs a good meal!

Paula I Love You for standing up to Mr. Bourdain! You are a true LADY. I cannot say anything more. Love your show, LOVE your food. I always say everything in moderation. I cook many of your recipes and I am not heavy. Keep giving us those recipes, I Love them! Love the picture of you and your grandson, it truly is something to treasure.I have a picture of my grandaughter and myself on my kitchen counter and it is the first smile I get in the morning and the last one at night...it was a picture taken for fun and it is the best picture ever.

Hey Paula, just wanted to give you a shout out and let you know that we love you here in Charleston! Living in a "foodie" town, and having crossed many chefs, I can tell you that my favorite chefs are the humble ones that make you feel comfortable and have a talent for making even the most frou frou of dishes approachable to anyone, in any setting, no matter how formal. Food is supposed to be fun and made with love for heaven's sake!Too many people have lost their manners in today's society, and Mr. Bourdain is now topping the list of people who act like their opinion trumps everything and everyone. As for Mr Bourdain's opinion, I'll let a famous fellow Southerner lay it out for him....."Frankly my dear, I don't give a *^@#"!

Paula, we love you but were "shocked and a little bit saddened !" to see an episode with your son where he made a cream sauce pasta (penne ?)with shrimp and spinach and he POURED the hot sauce over the pasta. NEVER, NEVER do that---the Italians finish their pasta for service by finishing cooking it for the final minute IN THE SAUCE. He needs to talk to Mario !
